Just a short trip from our holiday resort of Salou took us to the Mountain and Monastery of Montserrat (serrated mountain). Before visiting the Basilica housing the Black Madonna and exploring the monastery I wanted to visit the highest part of the mountain.
From the monastery the wife and I caught the San Juan cableway which takes visitors to an altitude of 1025m.
From there the rocky but easy path/steps is a 2 hour walk to San Jeroni at 1235m.
The views are extensive and the rock formations are extremely impressive.
Due to unsuitable footwear I left my wife to soak up some sun whilst I did the last half to the summit.
Overall this place is well worth visiting for the walks.

Great views from there Paulo, looks like you had some company up top too, though it is difficult to fault your Mrs, she had the right idea soaking up the sun while you made the effort

The wife didn't mind at all staying behind to soak up the sun.The views are amazing and we were lucky that winds that night had cleared the skies.
I see you have been busy in Canada ChrisW some of your pics are out of this world.

Beautiful report Paulo.

I've been on holiday to Salou loads of times and never thought to head up here :( :( Too busy screaming my head off at Port Aventura.

Thanks for submitting this, well worth leaving the mayhem behind for a day. :D :D

Thank you for the comments Pollyh33.One of the reasons for going there was to scream my head off on Port Aventura's new rollercoaster, Shambhala (the largest in europe).
I love getting away from the crowds too and would say it is well worth the journey to visit Montserrat.
It does get busy around the monestery but it the crowds soon disappear the further up the mountain you go.
