Booked the Wast WaterYHA well in advance and we set off Thursday afernoon to Climb Scafell Pike on Friday via Mickeldore then do Lingmell, walk out through the corridor route to Sty Head tarn round the base of Great Gable and return to Wasdale Head for a pint, we reckoned about 7 hours for the walk and MWIS said although it would be windy there was very little chance of rain and 70% chance of clear tops.
Well what a load of tosh that was. The reality was we set off from the national trust car park near Wasdale Head and up the well trodden and easy path towards Scafell Pike the weather man got it wrong big time torrential rain low cloud at 600 metres visibilty 200 metres max and very high winds. It was an easy walk on good paths but bouldery near the summit. Due to the rubbish weather especially the torrential rain and very high winds we decided to cut it short on descended back the same way. Maybe we will go back and climb it again from another direction.
