Walked up from St Catherine's monastary with hunners of other people, tourists, pilgrims. Walked during the night, setting off about 11pm as I recall, the aim being to reach the summit in time to see the sunrise over Jordan What a bloody marvelous experience. I would thouroughly recommend it to anyone - yes even with the crowds. In fact, especially with the crowds!

I take it there's an easy route up it then? My friend did it a few years back and the route she sent didn't look all that easy. Any photos? Jordan's well worth a visit if you're out that way again - the mountains and walking there are absolutely superb! See my posts below...

At St Catherine's monastery we are already at nearly 1600 metres so the ascent is only about 700 metres. These are the only two decent phots I have left. The first is from the summit. The second is of our guide on the way back down. (Hope this works!)

It's very like Jordan's mountains... was there any scrambling/exposure? Or was it all touristy, straightforward stuff?

Wow! That's a stunning place.
With all the physical beauty and spiritual heritage, it must have been quite a visit.
