There is limited parking at the village hall at Mungrisdale there is an honesty box in the back door of the hall. The beauty of parking here is you are very close to the Mill Inn for a well earned beer at the end of the day.

The day was very overcast/misty with snow fluries but the weather was of little concern as I just love being in the mountains. The snow and ice on the approach to Blencathra required crampons and ice axe. There were very few people about, but with the weather conditions it was only to be expected.

I am going to try and add a number of photos but they are ones I have taken in the past, as I said the weather was not good.

I like the back routes onto Blencathra - more wildernessy somehow! The photo where you've got 'Foule Crag from Atkinson's Pike' - I nowadays think Atkinson's Pike and Foule Crag are one and the same - I used to think the crag in your photo was Atkinson's though (Foule Crag is definitely the final climb up after Sharp Edge)... from the map, I'm not sure it has a name though (although the locals will call it something!).

I thought it was funny a few years back at Mungrisedale when, while they were doing major work on the village hall (more or less rebuilding it), they propped the out-of-use door, complete with money-box, against the wall so people could still pay! :D
