Walkhighlands

Hi everyone, travelled to the Lakes yesterday to tackle some snow, the weather forecast was good. We parked in the lay by on the A591 just outside Grasmere, so we had Helm Crag to our backs as we set off to climb the tongue to the right of Seat Sandal.We walked up by the beck and Tongue Gill before reaching the frozen Grisedale Tarn.By now we were in crampons and we knew they would be needed when we saw the climb to FairfieldThere were some great views back down the slope to the tarnWe were soon on the busy Fairfield plateau, not the place to be in poor visibility though.From here it was so clear and the views were spectacular.While walking people often ask if we are ramblers, our answer is no, we are mountain women We made our way off Fairfield to Great Rigg from where we made our steep descent past Stone Arthur and back to the car. Although it was bitterly cold at times it was a great day and all enjoyed it, till next time, take care, love Sue

I have only ever been to fairfield once.
It was during a heatwave a few years, shorts and t-shirts.
What a difference the weather makes!
Did the bitterly cold/strong winds forecast , not materialise?
I don't have my maps at work, was that the Fairfield horeshoe you walked?

Hi Sue – some lovely pictures there. I like Fairfield but have never tackled it in the snow, it looked as though you had near perfect weather for a winter walk in the Lakes.

Hi, no its not the horseshoe, if you go back in my topics I did a walk with my husband on a lovely day, starting at Nab Scar and along the first leg to Fairfield then off the same way as saturday via Great Rigg and Stone Arthur. The horseshoe you carry on to Hart Crag, Dove Crag and High/Low Pikes, about 11 miles I believe. It was a super day in the snow and there were so many cracking views

I'd definitely prefer that to the Fairfield Horseshoe - I don't particularly like that as I find a lot of it boring (probably wouldn't be in those conditions though...). Great photos - especially like the foreground of bobbly hats!
