FAIRFIELD IN THE SNOW - THE LAKES
Posted: Sun Jan 31, 2010 1:20 pm
Hi everyone, travelled to the Lakes yesterday to tackle some snow, the weather forecast was good. We parked in the lay by on the A591 just outside Grasmere, so we had Helm Crag to our backs as we set off to climb the tongue to the right of Seat Sandal.
We walked up by the beck and Tongue Gill before reaching the frozen Grisedale Tarn. By now we were in crampons and we knew they would be needed when we saw the climb to Fairfield There were some great views back down the slope to the tarn We were soon on the busy Fairfield plateau, not the place to be in poor visibility though. From here it was so clear and the views were spectacular. While walking people often ask if we are ramblers, our answer is no, we are mountain women We made our way off Fairfield to Great Rigg from where we made our steep descent past Stone Arthur and back to the car. Although it was bitterly cold at times it was a great day and all enjoyed it, till next time, take care, love Sue
