Was always quite keen on a visit to the South Downs and managed to schedule an afternoon there in 2011. In fact we had a whole week's walking in England because of the poor weather elsewhere. This still meant a bit of a detour though for this one walk as all the other hills we went to were in the Lake District, Peak District and Yorkshire Dales. Nonetheless, we willed our way south on the crawling motorways and got ourselves a warm and sunny if windy afternoon for our walk. We only had time though for a short section of the marked route but I thought it made for an excellent walk. My wife was a bit less keen on being on a dangerous cliff in windy weather but the ground inland from the cliffs makes for very pleasant walking on short grass.
