Parked up by The Cross keys on the A683. Over the footbridge and then followed the path up by Cautley Spout. A good path then follows the stream round to the shallow col between Caulders and The Calf, 676m (2218’) and its trig. point; I then took the long walk and climb out to Fell Head, 640m (2100’) via Bush Howe; and then returned to The Calf; and descended back to my car via Caulders 674m (2211’) and its ridge above Cautley Crag (as indicated by Nuttalls). The descent down this ridge is shorter, but much rougher and steeper. (Map attached). It may be debatable as to whether this route actually saves any time, but it does add interest. :D :D :)
Weather: Perfect, dry, sunny, light breeze, excellent visibility.
