Walkhighlands

Beautiful walk on the tourist trail (I found it better to think of the £6 as a parking charge rather than as 'paying for walking'! But it's well worth it, and it doubtless helps maintain the good steps and paths) through the woods and falls north of Ingleton. Get there soon after the 9am opening time and you get all the views to yourself. None of the falls are dauntingly high, but after a few days of even a little rain the frothy tumble down the valley is impressively powerful - although it needs Clivegrif's camera to do it proper justice!















Then up Ingleborough from the short western side - really kindly slab-pathed, even on the very steep stretch up to the escarpment, as all 'Yorkshire 3 Peaks' alumni know already. After that, it's easy but increasingly muddy walking down the long north ridge over Park Fell, and an awkward pathless thrash to cut back to the road.

Thanks for this Poppies, you're on my home turf and it's all of 43 years since I last viewed these falls with a pretty, slim girl whom a year later was daft enough to marry me. As you say they may lack drama but they are in a lovely spot and the cumulative effect is entrancing. No parking fees in those days.

Come on Clive accept the challenge and abandon your Welsh waterfalls for a visit to one of the northern delights.

Yep, you don't have to have munros. It's many years since I last did this walk, but, growing up in the Dales, I must have done the Ingleton Waterfalls walk a dozen times, and I never tired of it.

Ah this takes me back - its been years since I was up that way! I don't think digital cameras even existed when I was there last.

Its an absolutely wonderful area, and I would love to have a go at photographing Thornton Force - its superb.

Excellent stuff - sorry I'm a bit late answering this one, poppiesrara. You've made me feel like posting a report from a Dales trip I had with friends back in May - if I get round to it. It's a beautiful area.

I like your waterfall pictures. The 'frozen' effect from some short exposure cameras can be impressive, but for me, photos like yours capture the movement of the water.
