Plan to head into Wasdale with my Dad fell through after his car ran out of oil!

After returning home and getting the car into the garage there was just enough time for me to hit the Forest of Bowland to do a couple of previously unclimbed hills.

Weather improving as the day went on after heavy morning showers. Typical Bowland with good paths through the valleys but rough and wet on the summits with one very steep climb up Middle Knoll after being forced to lose height along the obvious ridge due to a barbed wire fence.

Long walk back along the quiet and scenic Trough of Bowland road.

Middle Knoll in view now. The obvious route appeared to be the ridge ahead but barbed wire blocked this so I had to lose height and head up the steep slopes on the left.

Initially there was a decent track up Whins Brow

But it petered out about half way up and the going was now tough through thick heather until I met the right of way coming up from Brennand Farm
