Mallorcan Strolls

Went to Mallorca from the 5th - 18th Oct and the weather was superb , just had two cloudy days ,and on one of those it rained . Mallorca is always a treat to visit , with so many fine walks ( always enjoy the mountains). We did a mumber of strolls/walks , the shortest being about 4km and the longest about 35km . So here they are in no particular order....
Cala san Vicente to Port Pollensa
This was a short 4km walk climbing up and through the Coll , experiencing great views in all directions. Best done early morning before it gets too hot.
Cala san Vicente to the Castel de Rei
Although only a 11km walk , it really is quite strenuous , particularly when the temp is over 35c and you are continually having to scamble over myriads of rocks and boulders . The walk is very exposed and there's only one shaded section on the walk . On our walk the highest temp was 42c , where as in the shade it was a cool 25c . But once again the views were spectacular.
Cuber circular
This was a nice easy stroll of about 10km around a picturesque resevoir surrounded by mountains . It was very cloudy when we went but it didn't rain . Because it wasn't a long walk we also took in the Blue Gorge which seem to continually bask in the sun.
Lluc to Caimari
This was a new walk for us , the last section of the GR222 and is about 16km long . It starts at the santuary of Lluc going pst the Son Amer refuge and takes you over a high pass with sheer drops before heading down to Caimari . It had been raining before we set off and remained dry until we were at the furthest part of our our , we stopped had lunch and then it just tipped it down for about 45mins , but by the time we got back to Lluc we were dried off. Saw a number of brightly coloured Hoo-Poos or is it Hoo Poes.
Lluc to Cala san Vicente
This was our big walk about 35km along the GR221 from Lluc to Pollensa and then on to CsVicente. Although we have walked the entire GR221 ( did it a couple of years ago ) it is one of those walks that you can do over and over again . It was very hot when we walked this section , 35c , but fortunately there's plenty of tree cover that gave us both shade and a very gentle breeze. At Pollensa we stopped for a cold beer plus an ice cream and just carried on to CSV.
Pirates trail , Port Soller.
A nice little 8km walk retracing the steps of a group of unfortunate pirates ( probably bloodthirsty not unfortunate ) who took a wrong turning on their way back from Soller with their booty to the port and were ambushed and killed by the locals , who celebrate that event to this day.
Did a few other walks such as the Cami di Botana.
Finally , there really is some great walking in Mallorca , plus it's warm /hot so you don't need too much clothing and a cold beer always tastes that bit better after a walk.
