We parked by the pub in Mungrisdale, after asking if it was ok, and set of east down the road to go up the flank of souther fell at the top of this path you have double back on yourself to get to the highest point of souther fell but when you turn to continue you then look at blencathra`s massive hulk and the route back over bannerdale. The path is obvious and when you get to brunt Knott you have a choice of paths up to the top of the saddle back for those not happy with a bit of exposure can head off round the tarn and up an easy walkable path, the rest of us take hard route up over sharp edge

half way across sharp edge

The climb up and along sharp edge is an enjoyable affair with some real knee wobbler moments ,which was really unexpected, one little notch has been polished by thousands of bums and in the wet and wind it would be quite dangerous but the fun is over all to soon as it is only a short knife edge. It is only a short walk up to the summit and then an about turn to mungrisdale common and a short march over to bannerdale craggs via the valley with the beck in it , it is then plain sailing back round to the pub and a pint of well earned sharp edge ale . (see binsey, catbells for the rest of the days walks)
