Snowdon Roller Coaster

Sorry, I'm new here: I originally posted this in another thread but just realised I need to post it in a separate thread to add it to my Walks Diary.

On Sunday I walked The Snowdon Roller Coaster from Llanberis which takes in Moel Eilio, a couple of smaller peaks and Moel Cynghorion before ascending to Snowdon on the Ranger Path. The ascent shown above is more than it should have been because I climbed the summit of Snowdon twice. The first time it was covered in thick cloud. I then descended about 300ft and looked back to see a huge gust of wind whip the cloud out of the south corrie and off the top in a matter of seconds - so I climbed back up to see the view 8)

There isn't a single part of my body that doesn't hurt.

Here are some pics...

It's a nice route that - I did it the other way round and walked from Rhyd Ddu, up over Bwlch Main to Snowdon, then finished off over the Cynghorion to Moel Eilio ridge to end up at Llanberis Hostel - great walk :D

The best part about it was the lack of people on the route up. I think I only met around 20 people in the 5 or 6 hours it took me to reach the summit of Snowdon. The summit and the descent were a totally different story but you have to accept that if you want to climb this on a good day.

I don't mind other walkers on Snowdon, I just can't stand the idiots who tend to come up on the train (although I'm sure some nice people come up on it as well...). They tend to do things like hog the summit, roll rocks down into the cwms and leave litter etc. :(

But I think that, so long as you like meeting other 'proper' walkers, all the routes except the Llanberis Track tend to be fine...

I got really angry at two things on recent walks:

On Scafell Pike some kids were walking down the crest of Brown Tongue with their parents and thought it was great fun to roll large rocks off the top onto the main path below. One guy sitting on a rock about 20 yards downhill from me almost got a melon sixed rock in the back of the head!!

On Snowdon I couldn't believe the amount of litter that people were leaving behind. The Llabernis Path (my descent) had some of those large bags full of rocks that are used to repair the paths and hundreds of idiots seemed to think they were there so that they could dump what was left of their packed lunch and their empty plastic bottles instead of taking them off the mountain.

Grrrr :x

I know - infuriating! They keep going on about enticing more people into the countryside with their 'inclusiveness' policies - but what they need to do is leave it to the people who genuinely enjoy the countryside for it's peace, quiet and beauty and so are getting themselves out into the countryside without need for enticement - instead of making out that it's some kind of theme park and that the more urban-minded are missing out! The countryside code should be rammed down their throats first and they should be made to sign to say they understand it!

Doesn't say much for the parents of those brats on Brown Tongue does it?

Moel Elio makes for a superb half day outing from LLanberis Via the blwch Maegswm and over Foel Goch and Foel Gron. I did this one sunny afternoon when my back prevented me from doing anything more strenuous. Great views of the High mountains and far reaching seascapes. See pics below.

I've given my thoughts on Snowdon summit in one of my walk reports. Nuff said. As for the Pike best to get up, Touch the top quickly take in the views and then head for Lingmell for deserved peace and quiet.

I can't get my head around why people would go to a beauty spot and spoil it with litter. It's like people going to the cinema and talking through the film. They should be handcuffed and a bag placed over their heads and forced to find a way down off the summit blind (hee hee).

'Fraid it's probably that 'theme park' mentality I mentioned earlier :(

Great walk. I think I have done every route up Snowdon except this one. Now, there is an excuse to go.

I read somewhere that Moel Cyghorion is Welsh for the Hill of the Council. There's never been a planning committee meeting when I've been up there though.
