Made a last minute decision to go for a nice walk on boxing day, checked the weather reports and all was good. In fact turned out to be a great day for the weather, so took in 3 wainwrights underneath skiddaw.
We set off at 6am to get to the car park at the Old sawmill tearoom just outside of Keswick.
we headed off at 8:35 following the yellow markers that are in the woods, until a path joined it from the left, we left here and continued up the hill.
we went through a gate and the climbing began in earnest. We flowed the fence line for a short while then turned right and started climbing up the ridge of the hill.
we made the summit of Ullock pike at 10:10, once we reached here we finally reached the snowline, it was a fine sprinkling of snow here, but enough for a southerner to feel a nice boxing day Christmas snow feeling......
after this the next 2 summits of long side and carl side were reached in no time at all (done in 40mins).
we now started the descent and we followed the main path down for a short while, then we took a left turn which then took us towards dodd. this descent was steep at windy but no issues really.
finally reached the bottom and followed the tracks back to the car park at 12:25.
