We followed the route described in a book about trail running, and quickly discovered that we were never going to be trail runners.

The author boastfully claimed that this could be run in 2hrs 30, although I'd be interested to see how fast he ran up the via ferrata which brings you to the top of the second peak, Pointe de la Sambuy.

The photos in the book showed stunning views across the Alps as far as Mont Blanc, but of course my photos leave all that to the imagination.

Our decision to abandon the circular route half way on account of being freezing was definitely the right one.

But on the whole this was a great walk.
