Walkhighlands

We had been looking at doing St. Sunday Crag via Pinnacle Ridge for some time & today seemed as good as any. Left the school at Glenridding and headed off up Grisedale. Made good time along the path, before heading up the hill side just after Elmhow Plantation. Was warm at the moment and there were clear views all round. Once at the 600m contour, we headed across the fell, until we got to the well marked start of Pinnacle Ridge. The first half is pretty easy going, but the angle of the sun was making it difficult to get any decent photo's. At the "climb" part, the rocks were a little slippy, so as we had no rope, common sense took over and we took the escape path up to the top pinnacle. The going was easy from above here and we soon came to the top of St. Sunday. Plenty of distant fells were on show too . A quick spot of lunch was had before heading off down to Birks. Again, the views were great, especially in Hartsop. From Birks, it's an easy descent down to Arnison Crag across Trough Head. After savouring the views it was an easy walk back down to the road, coming out at the back of the Ullswater Hotel, being slightly envious of the people sat having a pint in the sun

Nice report with some lovely pics - the one of the pinnacles from above is great.

One of my favourite scrambles that. Pity it was too slippery for the climbing bit - that corner does tend to stay damp in all but the driest conditions. The holds are good but it fully warrants it's Mod grade imo. There's nothing for it, you'll have to go back again and do it properly! (Maybe take a rope just in case?) Well done though.

wow, stunning photos Mamoset, you've got to make the most of such fantastic conditions and you sure did that..as for envying those guys having a pint in the sun....you should've joined 'em

Hey dav, thanks for that, a little rope could have helped us go a long way, but hey ho, i'm sure it'll be there for next time

Cheers Chris, i guess i'll have to carry money out with me from now on, if the wife will part with any

Good report and images Mamoset . Must have a go at that route in the future as it looks an interesting way to go
