A really good report . There's so many good hills in Ireland that it's hard to know where to start. This seems as good a place as any.

This blog has lots of interesting routes and photos in it, which will probably make you want to go back again. Some interestingly hair-raising photos of a route on the east face of Caruntoohil on this particular entry:

Excellent report and pics And very embarassing for me - I'd never even heard of the these mountains And really, I'd no idea that there were good hills in Ireland at all...

The route looks really good, and the scramble/climb on MalkyC's link looks absolutely brilliant .

For when I retire, perhaps.

Quite magnificent. Mountain, glen and lough scenery right up there with the very best on the British and Irish Isles. An excellent route, MoS.

A real eye-opener! I've only ever seen a few tantalizing photos of these mountains before and I've always wanted to know more about them, so it was a real treat to read such a brilliant report with so many great pics! The Reeks look really quite spectacular. Thanks to your TR I am now seriously considering spending a holiday in Ireland!

Thanks all. Plenty good hills in Ireland. The MacGillicuddy Reeks are great. Brandon Mountain is outstanding and the Mountains of Mourne in Northern Ireland are pretty-good too.

Good to see a report on the Reeks. I did pretty much this route back in 1993 and had forgotten how good the scrambling was.

Agreed Brandon Mountain is outstanding too. I've done it twice and it's one of my favourite mountains in the British Isles - even though I always seem to lose the path and end up wandering about down in the corrie. The last time I went up it was as a warm up for the Fisherfield Forest the following week. Those were the days

As Foggie has said this is a fine day out in the hills. We had good weather for this traverse ...in poor weather probably not so straightforward. We had a lift to the start as per the post here by folks who were headed to the Pass of Dunloe area for the day. We met up with them at an eclectic restaurant cum bar at Dunloe at the end of the day complete with a mixture of tourists, hillfolks and the folks who take visitors through Dunloe with Pony and trap. A very merry end of the day as you would expect in Ireland.

Thanks for sharing. Would like to at least do a bit of this one day.
