Hi, second walk of our stay in The Lakes, we again travelled early and parked up just past Uzzicar Farm on the Newlands Valley road, just before the bridge at Stoneycroft, room for quite a few cars here.
It promised another great day as we kitted up we could see Causey Pike from the car park, another plus was our path off Barrow later would bring us directly to our car We walked along the road to the end of Rowling End where the direct path meets the path going across, a more gradual climb. Our path meets the one from Rowling End summit (Birkett) then its a steep ascent to the summit We were getting closer to the crown, my husband not looking forward to the scramble and exposure We reached the rock top and after hubby said we aren't going straight up I had a look round the corner. It was poles away and hands on, for me it was ok but if you don't like scrambling its a bit harder, he did make it though This was my 100th Wainwright and Glynn had put a sign in his pack for me .The views were superb although the mist kept sweeping over us, we could see the route to Scar Crags Scar Crags summit soon appeared It was follow the path down to a hause where it was a steep climb to Sail Once back to the hause it was down to High Moss and our next target, Outerside This path showed some erosion where it had been washed away but we soon turned off to ascend Outerside We then visited Stile End before a drop to Barrow Door and the climb to the summit, this afforded us a view of our route out and back.We reached Barrow summit which for a small fell gives superb views. So it was back down the same way where at Barrow Door we dropped onto the path and back to the car, quite tiring in the heat but a great day
