A Short walk in Dales with a good friend of ours, Steve.
He lives in Airton so we opted for Buckden Pike walking up beside Buckden beck which is a nice steep way to get high quickly.
The weather was good, the visibility excellent with great views.

Views on the way up.

About half way up we found the remains of an old mine and the buildings that housed the workers and equipment a reminder of our industrial past that seem to turn up in the most obscure of places.

Views From the old mine workings.

Summit Cairn.

From the summit we headed west then south down a good path towards Buckden but we decided to lenghthen the walk by going back via Cray and Hubberholme and were treated to some fine views into Wharfedale.

Wharfedale.

From Hubberholme we walked a few hundred yards along the road towards Buckden but turned off along a path that takes you beside the river Wharfe most of the way back to the start.
This was a nice quiet walk in a lovely part of the Dales, it's less than an hours drive from home and a good excuse to catch up with old friends.

Now that is a beautiful part of the world Martin (not that I'm biased or anything  ) Looks like the weather opened up on the ascent and closed down again at the summit....typical  but it's always so nice to see the dales.

Nice one Martin. As I've said before, probably an underrated hill.
