Quite a long drive to get to the start of this walk as it's in the far west of Cumbria - so far west I got a message on my phone from EE saying 'welcome to the Isle of Man.'Navigation wasn't too difficult, although at one point I took a wrong turn and ended up on a muddy chewed-up forest path instead of the good path which runs further up the hill. The path goes quite close to the summits of Grike and Crag Hill - I didn't bother with these as I'd done them before.
In between Crag Hill and Iron Crag there's a short section where it gets very muddy. Once you've got past that it's just a matter of following a wall which goes for several miles along the ridge, all the way up to Haycock and beyond.
Iron Crag summit is on the 'wrong' side of the wall. I visited it on the way back, crossing the wall by a little stone stile near where it joins another wall.
Unfortunately I didn't get to see the view from Haycock as it was covered in cloud, although further down towards the coast it was bright and sunny.

That's a good wander Andy and a fair drive to get there (almost to the Isle of Man  ) Glad you got to see a little sunshine at least, even it it didn't come until late in the day
