Not been out for a while (damn real life commitments) so decided to kick off the winter walking season with a trek around Great Borne and Starling Dodd.

Arrived at Bowness Knot Carpark nice and early, the only car in there! Wandered back along the road, and started to climb to Reynards Ruin, and then up to the summit of Great Borne.

It took a while to get to the top of Great Borne as the snow was mostly at knee depth, with some bits at waist depth!

Then wandered across and up Starling Dodd, again battling through knee high snow to the top. Outstanding views across Ennerdale!

Then contoured down towards the lake, before arriving lakeside just short of the youth hostel. From there a simple walk back along the road to the car.

Excellent trip out, and a good one to start the year on! 8)

Good looking start to the year even if knee and waist deep snow made the going tough at times.....I bloody hate wading through snow
