Awkward drive up single track road with no passing places to Humbleton. Parked OK but only room for about 6 cars (4 today).
Walked 600m S to go through a signed gate to head W up Humbleton Hill summit. Quite steep near top. Good views all round. Cont W 600m to turn S for 500m and join St Cuthbert's Way W. Good long ridge walk for 5km, via Gains Law and Black Law, with grand views especially to S (incl Cheviot and Heddgehope). From lower slopes of Easter Tor left St C's Way to descend NW to a ford and climb Yeavering Bell - quite steeply towards summit. Surprised how many people on hill saw 10 in all!! Ignored them after initial chat to enjoy good views all round, especially W and SW to Tors and Cheviot.
Had snack and headed 200m SE to pick up path 2km E to White Law and continue further 1500m E to Gleads Clough Ford. The Ford was hard to find. I missed the turn at first but retraced to a point just W of the farmhouse where there is a path to down to Akeld Burn. From there I climbed to a gate to turn R uphill (NB do not go through gate). Where the wall turned left I went through another gate to head E for 2km along the foot of Harehope Hill to meet the N end of the path linkig Humbleton Hill to St Cuthbert's Way. From here it was only another km to the SP
