Wainwrights Round 2 completed

Well, the day finally came for the completion of our second round of Wainwrights. To stave off boredom, we have spent this round looking to do the tops from different directions, including doing as many direct ascents as we could. As it stands, I have now done 146 Wainwrights via a direct ascent, so only 68 to go By a strange quirk, the final 6 we had to do were the same 6 as our first round. So the haul out to Hardknott Pass was taken again, on what turned out to be a gloriously sunny hot day We parked at the summit of the pass and headed round to Hard Knott first, cheating a bit and leaving our packs in the car to be picked up on the way back past to Harter Fell It is only just over a 150m climb to the summit which we did quite quickly. As the cloud lifted, the views were fantastic. It seems like an age since I was on the Scafells After 10 minutes taking photo's we left and headed to get our packs. After collecting our packs, we took the path around Peathill Crag and headed up the hillside. It was very wet under foot, but on a hot day like this, it wasn't a real problem This route takes you up past Demming Crag and finally up onto Harter Fell. Though there is a trig point on Harter Fell, the true summit is a little scramble up onto a rock formation next to it. After a 10 minute break, it was time to face the boggy path over Ulpha Fell to Green Crag. We found a fairly dry route across Ulpha Fell, where the heather was in full bloom. In what seemed like no time at all, we were atop Green Crag and once again, the Wainwrights were done. Strangely, there didn't seem the sense of achievement as the first time, though later, on the way home, it dawned on us that it does take some doing, and I am really pleased with what we have accomplished. After having a bite to eat, we left and made our way towards the path alongside Spothow Gill. Once on the path, we made decent time, until we came to Jubilee Bridge and the foot of Hardknott Pass. How many walks finish with a nigh on 300m climb So, it has took 8 years & 8 months to complete the round twice, I honestly can't see a third round happening, some of the places just don't entice you back But, like James Bond was once told, Never say never again!!!!!
