The weather forecast was all over the place in the lead up to the weekend as we got our first proper taste of winter and while their was snow on the hills to enjoy - access to some areas looked difficult. Particularly as I only really had the first part of Saturday to spare.
In the end I played it safe and stayed local with a decent walk I've done before from Scorton. Over the top of the popular minor height Nicky Nook, down into the attractive Grizedale and then on to more typical Bowland fells - Harrisend Fell, Hayshaw Fell, Grizedale Fell and Grizedale Head.
It was then a case of following a shooters track, a short road stretch and field paths back to Grizedale, then back over Nicky Nook and back to Scorton.
Some heavy winter showers but also bright spells and winds much lighter than the day before.
Snow on the main Grizedale Fell ridge.
