Whilst on a holiday in Tunisia in 2014 I decided to take a walk down into Port El Kantaoui from my hotel area. The town was lovely but I had to fight off some persistent locals every few yards.
Unfortunately not long after my stay the hotel next door was subject to one of the worst terrorist attacks on British citizens.

Looks pretty sweet Paulo but I've never seen the attraction of places where people who would rather you were dead hang out often :? That attack next door proves how committed the local emergency services are to helping you out too...screw everything about this gaff

I remember messaging my parents whilst there and mentioned that it felt like you could cut the atmosphere with a knife ChrisW. I used to go to the local internet cafe for an hour to skype with my now wife but the locals were always looking at me in a way that made me feel uncomfortable.
Not everyone was like this obviously the ones working in the hotels were happy, they had work. A lot outside the hotel are full of anger because they have nothing. Needless to say I would never return and also would give Egypt a miss which was also on my radar of places to visit.

This is sad to hear. It is a long time since I visited Egypt (about 10 years) and Tunisia (about 17 years) but it sounds like both are not what they were. I was made to feel (in general) very welcome by the people back then and any suspicion was usually allayed by a friendly "salam".

LeithySuburbs it is a shame things are like they are now. There was a time when things like this were not in the news so much and places in North Africa were much safer.
