Hello everyone, as promised we got to Snowdonia yeaterday. A 6.00am start and a bacon butty in the car and we were on the way to Betwys-Y-Coed to meet lovey dovey couple Steve and Jan, did you forget it was Valentines's Day lads? YES :( or NO :D . From there it was a few miles up the road to Capel Curig and the car park behind Joe Browns. It was about 9.30 before we set off, going behind the church and up towards Craig Wen before cresting Craiglwyn, then on to the double ridge of Craigian Gleision which took us along the side of the Llyn Cowlyd Reservoir. As we rounded the water we broke trail and cut across heading for the highest point of the day, Pen Llithrig-y-wrach at 799 metres, a steep climb which was where we passed some plane wreckage with its poignant memorial poppy. It was getting a tiring day with the sometimes knee deep soft snow and I was quite happy to be making our way down to the head of the reservoir and the trail back to the car. We reached there at about 4.30pm, about 9.5 miles and still had another 3 hours before home, a very enjoyable day but the continual loss of height made it tiring, see you next week, take care all, Sue :D :D :D

Hi there
That is a lovely walk. Ive done it a few times. We are lucky and live at the bottom of the Berwyns so not long drive to Welsh mountains for me. Like the pics I must take camera next time I am out so I can load some pics on the site.

Yes it was a nice but long day, we have done the Snowdon Horseshoe and the Carneddau, also the Glyders and Tryfan, its great to go to other peaks as the countryside is so beautiful and you can get away from the crowds that appear on the bigger names, you certainly are lucky to live around there.

Hi there
If you like these mountians but like quieter places take a look at the Arans, Arenig and Berwyns. They are not quite as high or challenging but are very beautiful. I was on Carnedd y Ffliast and Arenig Fach yesterday and never saw a soul all day. They still have snow and fab views of all the main North Wales mountains ridges around. Happy walking!

I read somewhere that Pen Llithrig y Wrach translates as the Slippery Hill of the Witch. A more imaginative name than Grasmoor.
