Cadair Idris Western Summits

I'd been keen to attack the Western summits of Cadair Idris from the Mawddach side having previously climbed the higher summits from the East and a two day trip to Wales with some friends gave me the chance to do so.

The forecast had been - typically for Wales - for heavy showers and wind and true to form we didn't complete the round without getting drenched.

Views came and went but the whole walk was very enjoyable. Starting from sea level and heading over the attractive and character filled small peak of Pared y Cefn hir on the way and then on to the smooth and grassy ridges of Craig-las and Craig-y-llyn.

The initial route is through wooded valleys alongside waterfalls

After a short road walk Pared y Cefn hir is ahead and pretty dominant for it's size

After another brief road walk it was time to head for the main ridge

A faint grassy path eventually joins the well made Pony path with Cyfrwy ahead (not much snow today...there would be lot's more the day after!)

It's lovely grassy walking from here over the ridge to Craig-las - but the weather has caught up with us!

That's a good long trudge in the wet Broggy...I've almost forgotten what a drenching feels like...not sure I want to remember either
