From Monte Bianca to the access to the volcano. No permit, so not allowed up the last 200m sadly, but a great, hard climb from 2200m to 3555m with no chance to acclimatise. Oxygen tent needed above 3200m!

Certainly was, though by the time I got to the access gate I could definitely feel myself acclimatising. Sadly I had had a taxi to the bottom of the hill in the morning and he had been waiting for me for 4 hours by that stage! Can't say I was displeased to use the financial excuse!

Nice pics and awoke some memories from a much more relaxed time.

In 1970 four of us in a hired Fiat 125 got almost to the top up the track, no gates then, me driving. The poor thing succumbed to the altitude and carrying four somewhat heavy blokes, then refused to start until we descended a bit. Must say driving the Tenerife roads then was more hair raising than the ascent of Teide. Glorious daft days. :D
