A wonderful walk on Saturday, starting from Walna Scar Road. Car park was very busy but as I was slightly delayed with a large volume of traffic en route. I took my car all the way to the top car park as I was keen to start walking by 10.30am. The sun shone and I took the route up past the old quarry workings and ancient tramway - I had fantastic views all the way up and it took around two hours to get to the summit with amazing views of Scafell Pike, Morecambe Bay etc and I was told that on a particularly clear day you can see Blackpool Tower in the distance! It was very busy being a lovely warm Saturday and I stopped by at the summit and enjoyed a light lunch (however for some reason I am never hungry on hillwalks!) When I got to the top I decided that, rather than descend by the same route I would walk down and then up again along the ridge to Dow Crag. Decided to scramble up to the top of Dow Crag and again, amazing views. Had a great walk down enjoying the weather and scenery and took the old route that is now closed to 4x4s (although how they managed to negotiate the narrow track I will never know). Arrived at my car at the car park around 4.15pm. A great day and glad I took in Dow Crag - definitely a walk to recommend.
