The weather didn't look promising at all on Monday morning so I had a lazy morning before a speculative drive into the Lakes - looking for something quick to break the journey home up.

Low cloud everywhere so just decided to do Helvellyn via the popular Swirls path - a first for me as I almost always climb Helvellyn from the East.

A steep but easy and straightforward walk on a well made path was entirely suitable for the day with the added bonus of the cloud breaking up at the summit.

Warm throughout with very little wind and extremely pleasant on the top.

Raise should be ahead here. I originally thought I'd go over Raise and down via Sticks Pass but as the weather looked rubbish over there I decided to drop down from Whiteside.

I lost the path after this and had to take a route one route down the hill before eventually joining with the old pony path and then the good contouring path back to Swirls Car Park
