The first time I've walked up this fell. The weather was very windy today with gusts of between 50< 80 mph forecast. This lower level walk proved to be exactly what was required. Although I explored and pottered around a bit, it could easily have been completed in under 4.5 kms. I set out from Grange, parking by the bridge and followed the well signed minor road just before the second church (very nice café here too). The mine track is in much better repair now than my old copy of Wainwright suggested that it might be. Ignore the spoil and go up to the col where an excellent path takes you up to the summit and excellent views down the valley.
