Having walked up Castle Crag earlier in the day, I was looking for another short walk for the afternoon (this was my first day's hillwalking since having a total hip replacement 12 weeks ago). The weather remained fairly wet and windy, although this walk was sheltered from worst of the the strong gusts being experienced on the loftier fells, but the ground remained wet and, in places, soggy underfoot.
I parked at Tarn Howes and followed the obvious track up to the col and from there the wall until it could be crossed by the ladder stile, and then more or less followed again all the way up to the summit. The top of the fell is not without interest and could easily be confusing in rain and mist. As it was, I nearly dropped off in the wrong direction, although a quick glance at the compass put me back on track without any harm being done. A good poor weather alternative to the high fells, and one that I would have extended in better weather.
