Half term so I had the chance for another day off and Thursday looked to be the good weather day so it was back to the Lakes again!

It had been years since I'd done the direct climb up Cat Bells from Hawse End so opted for that and then the ever magnificent Newlands Round.

Extended it to visit the Dewey hill of High Snockrigg and then up on to the underrated Knott Rigg/Ard Crags ridge.

Any cloud in the sky had passed by midday and with light winds it was another belting day on some of the best ridge walks in the Lakes.

I was only a boy when I last climbed Cat Bells from here and it's a lovely climb albeit on an eroded path.

Owing to it's obvious popularity I was glad I was here relatively early.

Looking back to Robinson again over Buttermere Moss - which is certainly a wet place by Lakeland standards

Steeply down to a closed Newlands Hause with Knott Rigg looking equally steep on the other side

Moss Force - I had better views of this from Knott Rigg but the sun was too much of a hindrance to get a decent picture

Wandope, Eel Crag and Sail look much bigger than they actually are from Ard Crags

After a short road walk to Little Town I got this great view of Causey Pike and Ard Crags

There's a little bit more ascent to reach it but the path along the flank of Cat Bells back to Skelgill is really pleasant.
