Walkhighlands

Hi, it was a warm day as we drove from Pooley Bridge along Ullswater and tackled the helter skelter road above Howton to our parking spot at Martindale New Church, the only downside was that it was very windy and that light that seems to dilute your photo's. We set off past the church and alongside Steel Knotts slowly rising in the now brown heather, we were now above the old Martindale Church. We could see up the valley towards Rampsgill and The Nab, across from us was Beda FellAs we reached a wall we climbed up onto the ridge and it was a short walk back to the summit. It was very, very windy as we walked up the last climb, no chance to perch on top of the rocks called Pikeawassa, and hence the tall hair The sky was very heavy so the views were not so clear, Loadpot Hill was in cloud. Our descent was straight back towards the car and we could see the church nestled in front of Hallin Fell.To the right Ullswater was opening up with the bendy road visible to the left.As we descended we made good time, although some parts were a bit steep We made it back to the car and it was time to go straight up Hallin Fell which was a bit more "up" than it looks.To the left and backlit were Beda Fell, The Nab and Rest Dodd up Martindale. I reached the windy top to view the rather magnificent cairnIt was brightening up towards the south of Ullswater and Place Fell It was a quick visit to Hallin Fell, 35 minutes up and down A nice warm up for the next walks and an area we hadn't been to, now for the windy road down which my husband says is better than going up Thanks , Sue

Its a nice round to carry on from Steel Knotts, up onto High Raise round to the Knott and Angletarn Pikes and back over Beda Fell. I always think Howtown could do with a nicer pub than the back bar at the Hotel
