How to you manage to protect your grub from foraging dingoes, pigs, etc.?

I was working nearby on a 3wk on 1wk off roster so thought I'd use part of my r&r for a bit exploration.

During the night I just hung my pack further up the tree than you see in the pics...my head was at that end so I could hear any mammalian partying going on in my pack anyway.

Missed all of this the first time round. Looks interesting . I'm slightly envious of your cooking efforts - looks way better than my usual pasta and tomato sauce!

Don't be fooled...if I'm time poor & running out the door i might only throw a packet of timtams in my pack !
Pasta, tomato sauce & some decent Parmesan sounds pretty good....quick, hot, tasty & filling.

Nice report and pics. i've always kept to the south part of Oz - well away from most of the "nasties". Think I'd need Crocodile Dundee to keep me safe in SE Queensland

South is good, I used to live way down in the island state of Tasmania, pretty safe from wily crocodiles down there though.

Had a great but hectic 2 weeks in Tasi in 2015 - Cradle mountain, Strahan Moma art gallery ,Bruny Island etc. Brilliant

Hopefully 'Tassie time' & her charms have left a mark on you & you'll return one day...there's the famous Overland track & plenty of longer remote wilderness walks waiting for you in the wild Southwest.
Just keep weather eye on those low pressure systems that come swinging in from the Antarctic. They don't call it the roaring fourties for nothing.

...and for the peakbaggers thinking of retiring there, they even have a similar system to the Munros called the Abel's.
A lifetime of peaks to keep you busy....

Rainy, drizzly weekend..Mt Barney NP, Qld.
But it was good to leave the city life behind...just for a while.

Steamed prawn dumplings were on the menu...







Overnight soaked dried fruit for breakie...

Another outing. Hoping to catch the warm morning rays on a cliff face this time around...still mooching around Mt Barney NP.

Locked up...off we go.



Nibbles along the way... savoury Scroggin (dried squid strips, wasabi peas, spicy broad beans, roasted edamame & BBQ coated peanuts)

Crossing over a bouldery gully to a ridgeline with views.





Death in the bush... probably a rock wallaby's lower jaw.



Making camp...



Tucker time...boil, place in a insulated pocket & return in 15mins...easy.




Tarp pummeled by angry gusts all night long. The gently rocking hammock was nice though.
Morning light...



Blustery gusts continued, wildly swaying canopies & branches dropping all around.
Stumbly descent, through the trees, glimpsed some organ pipes.



No tracks, no rock cairns, no mozzies, no ticks, no snakes, no leeches, no rain...an enjoyable adventure.

Cool season temptations....
Remote, rugged & usually searingly hot National Parks in my neck of the woods, well sort of,
4-6hrs drive away.

Isla Gorge NP 1st up....Sandstone country.
Waiting for autumn & winter's cool season to kick in before I drop down into the miriad of valleys & explore.





Auburn River NP...small in size but o' so wild.

Bottle trees & Ironbark woodland, long dry grasses, easy off track walking


Granite Dragons eggs tumbled smooth.


Giant's eyeview, look upstream towards Auburn Falls


My usual baby thermos overnight yogurt & dried fruit breakfast


Sundown Np...after life giving rains.

Downstream gorge


Decent sized mussels


Owl or bird of preys boneyard


Invasive Prickly Pear...tastes a bit like watermelon, tiny spikes on the outside stick into your skin...or throat if if not cleaned properly.
