Blencathra Circuit - Bowscale Fell - Bannerdale Crags - Mungrisdale Common - Blencathra - Souther Fell

A fine day on the Northern Fells. I have been meaning to get around to these ones and as the weather was set for sunny with cloudy intervals today would be the day!

I parked at Mungrisdale on the small street, paying at the honesty box. I then set off into the valley following the path alongside Bannerdale Beck. This is a very long climb. Eventually arriving on the path to Bannerdale Crags I took a quick detour to the top of Bowscale Fell for the first summit of the day.

I then back tracked a little before following the path along the crag and up to the summit of Bannerdale Crags.

Sharp Edge was looking tempting, but I wanted to pick up Mungrisdale Common, so walked around the back of Blencathra and got to the summit of that one. Its a pretty boggy, and uneventful fell, but I have bagged it!

I then went up the side of Blencathra, arriving at the same point where Sharp Edge arrives, then turning and walking along the fell to the summit proper. Outstanding views over Keswick and the two lakes in the distance.

I then turned and descended from Blencathra, passing lots of people who were on the way up. I went straight on and up onto Souther Fell, following the path down the otherside and the road back to the car.

Glorious weather; and a fantastic day out. Delighted to have bagged another 5.
