Still on the mission to finish the Welsh Hewitts before summer, I saw the beautiful weather forecasted and decided to take on a couple of Brecon Beacons previously missed.

Parking up over a 1000 foot up at the Blaen y Glyn car park in the Talybont Forest, it does make an easy start! Not fancying the incline up Craig y Fan Ddu, I opted for a very easy stroll up to Bwlch ar y Fan alongside the Neuadd upper reservoirs. Very easily graded and possible the nicest/easiest walk up to a high pass, 3 very simple miles follow the old Roman Road to the pass between Cribyn and Fan Y Big.

From here it's the only steep incline of the day and even that is over quickly. Soon at the top of Fan y Big with opening views of the main escarpment of Pen y Fan and Cribyn, it's a simple stroll!

From here it's a case of following the scarp path for a few miles around to the end of Bwlch y Ddwyallt and then up the cinder path that edges Waun Rydd. A quick detour takes you to a spot height on a rather featureless summit and then back to the path.

Re-tracing the path, it then takes the Eastern edge along Graig Fan Las. Here loads of people were met walking up from the car park in a state of red faced exhaustion! Following the obvious path it's back to the car park, where I met hundreds of runners, cyclists and bank holiday strollers enjoying a wonderfully warm spring day!

Really enjoyed a route I'd put off for being 'boring'. An enjoyable way to enjoy the sunshine!

Remember this stick - there aren't any trees on the Beacons!
