The adventurers have decided to head off into the (almost) trackless wilderness that is the Rhinogs, to explore the area around Llyn Hywel, with an overnight wild camp at the lake.

They start at Maes-y-Garnedd.

Image20170824_134753. The young adventurers, ready for anything.

Image20170824_135609. On their way, through the wilderness of deepest darkest Wales...

Image20170824_142443. ...though on occasion the stone slabs of the pavement make it easier (less boggy!!!).

Image20170824_143132.

Image20170824_150236. From time to time a short rest is necessary.

Image20170824_151646. Then the going gets tougher. Here they've just crossed a wild river... and ahead lies the big climb to the mountain lake.

Image20170824_151824. Up into the wilds... Steep climb, especially carrying big packs. Through dense jungle...

Image ... and rocky wilderness.

Image20170824_161658. A couple of hours after starting, they arrive at the lake. Ollie has to investigate the possibility of swimming (it turns out to be a bit cold for that)...

ImageAfter putting up the tents...

ImageIMG_0013... the adventurers head off to explore the surroundings.

ImageIMG_0026. Wild stuff!

ImageIMG_0024. But good things also come to those that are patient :-D.

ImageIt's pretty windy up there.

ImageBut lots of fun!

Image

Image20170824_185326. Then, as the sun sets....

Imageit's back to the campsite to prepare the campfire (to keep off wild beasts).

Image

Image20170824_195726. Collecting fuel takes quite a time, but soon there's an impressive blaze....

Image

Image

Image20170824_204029. ... that lingers on into the night.

Image

Eventually all retire for the night, and sleep pretty solidly!

Image20170825_100842. Next morning, after a sausage and rolls breakfast, it's decided to explore all the way around the lake.

Image20170825_102511. Over wild rocky terrain...

Image

Image20170825_103916. With a bit of hide and seek among the rocks on the way.

Image20170825_104749. Then back to the campsite to strike the tents and pack up for the return trek.

Imageback across miles of wild moorland, to the waiting cars (in the background you can see Maes-y-Garnedd farm where the cars are parked).

It's been a great adventure, and we all decide we have to do another one as soon as we can.

And so we do...
