Just to advise Hewitt baggers that Fan y Big in the Brecon Beacons has been demoted from the Hewitts. LIDAR data shows it has less than 30 metres prominence. It does of course remain a "Nuttall". Walkhighlands editors notified separately.

Saw this - I wonder how long before all the lists are 'finalised' and there's nothing left for people to remeasure...

Fan y Big is a good one though and well worth a visit, Hewitt or not - the north ridge and valleys for quietness or by the worn-but-good ridge paths west and south.

I've always wondered this.

The adding and demoting of hills (especially the adding) must be a real kick in the teeth for some people. Particularly if for one reason or another they can no longer access the hills and can't get back to climb a Calf Top or an upgraded Corbett/Munro.

I'll give the Wainwright list it's due. It's a funny old list but it's not going anywhere or changing any time soon.

Ah, so that's why we omitted it from a Cribyn / Pen-y-Fan walk in 2008 and it's been a red blob on our Hewitt map ever since . It seems a bit of a shame for what looks like a decent top, but we'll still aim to tick it off sometime.
