Nice stay at Merlewood nr Grange Over Sands finally ended and family all headed our separate ways home - I was going via Kendal to do some shopping at English prices before heading north, so had a look for a short hill walk between Grange over Sands and Kendal, and found this one on the Walk Lakes website. Fitted the bill perfectly as the start was within a few metres of the A590 so no detour required, a Wainwright outlying fell /Marilyn /HuMP.
After 2 days of rain the good weather was back, so no risk of onwards travel in wet clothing. Parked in a rough layby just over the cattle grid from the A590 at Mill Side, walked up the minor road to the hamlet, turned right past the phone box and headed up the lane, then right on the bridleway, then left on the "permitted path" and followed the white arrows up the hill through the woods to the top of the Scar. Once out in the open, it was then a nice walk along the huge plateau, following the worn path, past a few big cairns and eventually reaching the 'summit' of Lord's Seat with a memorial cairn. Nice route and nice weather, so rather than drop down and walk back at low level, I just went back the same way.
Nice wee leg stretcher before sitting in the car for a few hours.
Left car 1008, at Lord's Seat/Whitbarrow scar summit 1104, back at car 1154.
