Snow walk on Y Garn

After our first aborted attempt on Saturday( Aborted due to yours truly tripping over my crampons and banging my knee on a boulder ) We started our first winter walk of the season.

We started at the carpark by Idwal Cottage and set of up path to Llyn Idwal.

We crossed over the bridge @ GR SH646598 to head off up onto the ridge stopping at a boulder @ GR SH638599 for our first break.

From here we set off onto the ridge.

Once on the top of the ridge the views opened up.

By now the youngsters were well ahead and heading for the top.

Very soon we were all together on the top for a well earned break and lunch.

From the top we headed down to Llyn y Cwn then followed the path that leads down to the bottom of Devils Kitchen, then it was back to Llyn Idwal and Ogwen Cottage.

All in all a great walk even with a swollen Knee, it was one of those days when the weather was just perfect.

Yes brilliant weather and all main roads were clear of snow, some parts of the A5 Shrewsbury bypass were down to one lane clear on saturday morning.

Enjoyed that! It's been a long time since I've been up Y Garn in the snow. Could be a suitable leg stretcher over the Chtistmas period though

I'm off to Wales tomorrow... but not walking - rock-concerting! But I'm really, really hoping I can still get there... and more importantly I suppose, I hope the groups do too!

Know what you mean about tripping over your cramponed feet - I've been tripping over my micro-spiked ones in the Lakes all week! Never used to be so clumsy I've bashed my legs about quite a bit too and landed on my ice axe spike once and make a hole in my jacket. Wouldn't be so bad but that's now convinced my walking buddy Richard that they're dangerous, which of course is complete nonsense...
