Warning Please note that hillwalking when there is snow lying requires an ice-axe, crampons and the knowledge, experience and skill to use them correctly. Summer routes may not be viable or appropriate in winter. See winter information on our skills and safety pages for more information.

Very foggy start up The struggle from Ambleside Yh.
Set off at 8.20
Back at 2.20(?)
Very few people on the way. A man, a female runner with two dogs.
Prospect of cloud clearance higher up and as day progressed.
Reached summit around midday. Cup of tea then onto Middle Dodd quickly as concerned about time and light.
Saw runner again and, as she had come from my intended direction, asked her if she knew which hill was Middle Dodd- the only one, at that time, invisible.
Quick drop down. Good views to Brotherswater.
Back up towards Red Screes to find path to Scandale Pass.
Few more people passed on the long but relatively comfortable descent to a still misty Ambleside.
