Höhenweg 5. Randa to Täsch

Coming South from Topali, the ongoing route to Täsch is mostly along a pleasant woodland trail , which is almost horizontal after a short steep start. Once you decide not to descend to Randa, you cross the two streams above 1800m and take a horizontal track into the woods.
Map of section route in red : route from Randa to Rötiboden in green
Track into the woods
Looking back across the two streams
A wider view
More views back
The track continues horizontally thru the woods for a while , but then climbs quite steeply on a zig-zag path up a pleasant grassy gully for about 200m
Views up and down the gully
Eventually you reach a signpost at 2016m and head Left on an almost horizontal track. This continues for about 2km through varied woodland until it's time to descend.
The reason for the ascent is to get above these cliffs
and in particular this deep gully - the Schusslauizug
The gully is easily crossed at this point
A wider view
Looking back
The crossing point
Looking up
and down
and back across
The track heads steadily South through varied woodland
Until it reaches this signpost where it crosses the green track up from Randa: a right turn takes you on a long walk up to the Weisshorn hut
Just beyond you come to Röti-boden a small piece of heaven : There is a drinking fountain here - well worth remembering
Diversion
The diagonal path from Randa to Röti-boden has some nice views and I've added the pics here:-
Crossing the Matter Vispa - The Sattelspitz and Bösentrift (3247m)at the back
A zoomed view from a bit higher - part of the Breithorn just appearing
The route crosses between the two big waterfalls in the Schusslauizug, and then doubles back to the gully edge
Where you get a good close-up view of the Great Slide
Looking across the Mattertal to the Täschhorn above the Wildikin- below a wider view from a bit higher - The Dom on the Left
Zoomed view of Castor, Pollux and the Breithorn
The traverse beyond Röti-boden continues through woodland - at this junction the lower path leads only to some more remote chalets
Eventually you emerge at Schalubarg 2013m
Looking back to the wooded section
Another view of Schalubarg - and the ongoing path which starts to descend from here
Back up to Schalubarg
and down the steep slopes to Täsch
The path zig-zags but it's still an exhausting climb if you ascend this way
Looking across the valley - the vertical "tear" in the woods was caused by two fifty ton boulders that came loose from the top of the Täschgufer and rolled down in August 2016 One finished on the road and the other on the golf course beyond: both had to be blown up : with explosives before they could be removed
A well placed seat here affords a view of the Breithorn: the path heads on down towards it - below nearing the bottom
Two views looking back up from the bottom: it's only a ten minute walk to Täsch station from here
