Walkhighlands

This is a good but short walk. It's a tough climb up, well it is for an unfit 48 year old, and I found the top a little confusing as it was quite boggy (8th April 2009) and had to resort to some compass and map use to finally find my way to the top. What a view though! Excellent view down to Rosthwaite and Keswick.

It feels a lot more remote than it actually is and I was surprised to meet no-one else on the entire walk.

I started out from Grange, leaving the car in the car park near the bridge, walked along the road towards Keswick for a few metres and took the path off to the right to go behind the hotel and towards the cottages. It's quite simple then to follow the footpath up the hill and through the trees remembering to keep heading upward as the path forks and eventually breaks out of the trees and winds back on itself to the upper plateau.

Continue forward on the plateau heading towards Rosthwaite until you cross two tracks heading towards stiles in the fence. Turn right here and follow the tracks upwards as the wind up towards Kings Howe.

Steep descent towards the Bowder Stone and care is needed. The path is eroded and slippy with loose rock etc. Eentually coming out onto the main path running alongside the road and then onto the road with approximately a road walk of 300 - 400metres to make it bak to Grange.

Hi,when we did it last year it was very boggy but we followed the Watendlath path from Rosthwaite, a turret of rocks marks the top and although it was a bit misty great views to Keswick and the Borrowdale valley.
