Roughing across the Rhinogs
Posted: Sat May 04, 2019 6:24 pmIt has been two years now, since I wrote: "As other reports about the Rhinogs did, yours makes me very curious about this part of Snowdonia. Alteknacker replied, saying: "I can't recommend them highly enough; and they're more or less on your doorstep, right!?!?"
Well, they're not. To say the least.

But eversince my first visit to Snowdonia, five years ago now, my nephew, in his associative way of thinking, has been teasing me with his nickname for me, Tante (aunt) Snowdonia, referring to this lovely lady, that comicbook lovers will know. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tante_Sidonia
So after having been bullied for this stretch of time
I simply proposed my sister and her husband to join me on a holiday in Wales. They said yes, as did their other son and both my parents. So a family holiday it was going to be.
With them having very little mountain experience, apart from some gravelpaths in the Alps, I was going to be the "Wales-guide" and I planned on doing some easy scrambling routes with them. So we've been up Nantlle ridge in great weather, which was fantastic (and new for me as well), up Snowdon via Watkin path (which was new for me as well, and tougher than I'd expected to be honoust) which was fantastic as well, be it we had no views from about 800 meters altitude, as the path and the summit were covered in clag.
We also had Tryfan on our to do list (ofcourse!), but as the predictions for the weather were less than promising, we let go of that idea and swore to come back to Snowdonia once again.
I couldn't get over the idea though, to only do 2 big walks (and some minor walks like Aber Falls and Great Orme coastal route) in a week. I had to visit the Rhinogs.
Weatherwise, I wasn't expecting miracles. I knew what was promised and I'd seen the black cloudpictograms. But the fact that all too soon my photocamera had some inner-lens condensation was a bit of bad news.
To make up for not having any photos, here's the video. No awardwinning material, but it gives a good idea of the terrain for anyone interested:
