On a day trip from Mum & Gary's place today, we borrowed his 4WD truck  We'd seen others posting awesome photos surrounded by big mountain goats up here, so were keen to see them too :D So no summit today, just a walk up to the 'camp site' and around the base of Gimli. In the end, we only saw 1 goat, but it was another super day nonetheless 8) :D

Kicking up a dust storm on the way in - slow and steady going, as there were over 70 water bars (wide, deep culverts) to get through
DSC_0804.JPG
Getting closer! Road in good condition in between those bars :D
DSC_0807.JPG
At the trailhead, signs for toilets pointed here (new one on us; saw a few of these on our different walks this holiday) :D

A notice about the goats! Gave us confidence they were plentiful up there (and they probably are, but you're lucky to see them)

Water crossing with a nice new bridge :)

Getting near the top of the woods, we can start to see tops
DSC_0843.JPG
View down to our left; realising those goats have a huge space to move around in :D
DSC_0848.JPG
Nearing the campsite, we reckoned we could see a goat right on top of Gimli Peak, looking down on the climbers just beneath him (zoomed pics were just a blur though!)
DSC_0854.JPG
No goats around the campsite :( We'd not long passed a couple who said a group of 5 goats including a kid had just passed through here... but by the time we arrived they were nowhere to be seen!

So we carried on, heading around the base of Gimli Peak
DSC_0870.JPG
Crossing boulders, noting they'd all fallen from the stripey rock face above us
DSC_0873.JPG
Fascinated by these 'zebra' rocks! :)
DSC_0888.JPG
View from the end of the track; we could hear climbers up there too, but this was as far as we were going today

Peering over the edge, sharp drop to the glacier below

Wider view across the basin
DSC_0902.JPG
Now to head back, over the zebra boulders to pick up the track again
DSC_0918.JPG
Back at the camp area we spotted a goat! (right of centre)

Peek-a-boo :D
DSC_0928.JPG
Campsite facility :D

View back to where we've been
DSC_0943.JPG
Heading down again - good track all the way

Our stats; never sure why they end up so different! (Scoob had changed his batteries, but it didn't take 6 minutes!)
