Why this hike should be on your list?
Eggenipa looks very dramatic from below, and there is a reason for that. The ridge is amazing. You start of on a private road that lets you gain elevation easily. Then you hike the ridge all the way to the top. There are many chain sections, but I never found any of them to be difficult. When you get to the top you can continue and do a loop back to the car. The views are great, and the trail good. This is one of the most enjoyable hikes I have done in Norway. This hike is close to Byrkjelo, which is close to the famous little town Loen. In Loen you can do a via ferrata or hike Skåla, or you can drive down to hike Kattanakken in Briksdalen, which is another report I have here.

Please note that hillwalking when there is snow lying requires an ice-axe, crampons and the knowledge, experience and skill to use them correctly. Summer routes may not be viable or appropriate in winter. See winter information on our skills and safety pages for more information.
