Why is this hike so popular?
The hike to Reinebringen is probably the most popular hike in Lofoten. The effect this has had on the ground caused them to close the hike down, and build sherpa steps up there. The views of Reine are great for such a small effort. You gain 448 meters using sherpa steps. It took me 25 minutes, but will probably take most people around an hour.
Is it a good hike?
The views are good, so yes. But, here is my advice. When you get to the top and are up there with all the tourists with their fancy cameras, continue further up to the left and go all the way to the very top at 666 meters above sea level. This is a ridge hike that has some partly difficult sections, so you might have to turn when you feel that enough is enough.
I made a video from our vacation in Lofoten. Feel free to check out the part that involves Reinebringen from 4 minutes and 40 seconds into the vidoe, and until 6 minutes in.
Warning
Please note that hillwalking when there is snow lying requires an ice-axe, crampons and the knowledge, experience and skill to use them correctly. Summer routes may not be viable or appropriate in winter. See winter information on our skills and safety pages for more information.
