- Good views acroos to W Hill and beyond to Old Fawdon Hill
Good steep walk on hot (20c) day. Walking S from Brandon car parking to amazing hidden lofty fb over R Breamish. Sturdy but airy!! Rather like mini Eildons, conical affording grand views all round.
Cont S along narrow road, past entrance to nature res with its warning for adder, to signpost for Fawdon and Ingram Mill a few yds further on right. Crossed flat field to cont - via two(3)? gates - directly W up East Hill instead of mapped path N. Steepish climb.to summit via 'false top'. Great views all round as hill conical. Brandon lake shone blue from clear sky.
Moderate descent to a vale then longer climb to lengthy summit ridge of West Hill. Again grand 360*views from peak.
Steep descent SW to foot, then swung SW then S to traverse the contours and climb the less steep (but steep enough) SW flank of Fawdon Hill to reach trig pillar. Felt like a Munro!! no height but tough steep climb!!
V steep descent NE to a gate, to pick up path to Fawdon Farm, where it may have been, quicker - and safer - to go straight on along a road, but I followed the sign for the footpath to Brandon. After 500m reached a gate signed 'beware cows with calves!' but there were none in the fied, no, they were in the next field but one - packed around the gate and my only exit. I chanced walking through and they were fine - thank heaven. Cont through meadow to field at base of East hill and road to footbridge and Brandon SP.
