Superb Lakes weather-Fairfield plus 4
Posted: Sun Apr 19, 2009 2:03 pmHi, no Saturday gang this week, the lads were in Newquay on a stag weekend so it was me and hubby who set off bright and early for the Lake District. We were promised good weather and it delivered. We parked off the main road and walked to Rydal Mount and our first ascent to Nab Scar. This climb gave us ever improving views, especially of the Western Fells.

It was good fun trying to spot the peaks in the distance, not always easy as the angles change. The slab is clearly visible on Bowfell.
The next peak after a drop and climb was Heron Pike at 612 metres, great views of Fairfield opening up, also the valley floor.
As we moved on to the next peak, a longer climb to Great Rigg we could see our eventual exit down to Stone Arthur.
After a climb it was the summit of Great Rigg at 766 metres, it was getting warm now.
Ahead was the last climb to Fairfield.
Reached the summit of Fairfield at 873 metres, and it was a couple of degrees colder, a few people up there and some great views.

As we were going off via Stone Arthur it was a descent back to Great Rigg.

After what seemed a long descent, we reached Stone Arthur summit at 500 metres.
A final look up to Stone Arthur, quite a daunting view, like a castle.
Final figures from the Satmap showed a distance of 18.2 km and total ascent of 1247 metres, it was a lovely walk in good weather with great views, how good to be on the hills
